For the Hearth

Hearth Products refer to all decorative heaters available for your home. They consist of:

  • Fireplaces to a hearth dealer are entire units (gas logs, firebox, venting, mantle) used to install a fireplace where there was previously just a blank wall.
  • Fireplace Inserts are used where there was an existing wood fireplace to convert it to gas.
  • Gas Logs - gas logs are a cheap way to convert your wood burning fireplace to gas. They cost half as much as the fireplace insert. With the lower cost, though, comes a bit less realism than you'd find in an insert, and a few less options (fan, venting styles etc).
  • Free-standing stoves are stand-alone heaters with a window in front, so you can see the flame.
  • Cast Iron Stoves are a type of free-standing stove made of cast iron sides, similar to an old Ben Franklin stove.

A Word on Venting

Most hearth products come in all three common venting styles: vent-free, natural vent and direct vent. The venting style that suits you the best would depend on how you plan on using the heater, specifics of your space, local code requirements, and availability.
